Rachin Ravindra was born on November 18, 1999, in Wellington, the capital of New Zealand in an Indian Family. His father Ravi Krishnamurthy is a software system architect and his mother Deepa Krishnamurthy is a housewife. His family shifted from Banglore, India to New Zealand in the 1990s.

He started playing cricket at the early age of just 5 and got attracted to the sport. His father Ravi helped him learn the sport and helped him play with plastic balls. His father was his first coach and wanted him to become a cricketer. Ravi Krishnamurthy was also a good friend of the former Indian cricketer Javagal Srinath, he played cricket with him when he was in Bangalore and Rachin calls him ‘Sri uncle’.

His father also founded Hutt Hawks Club in the year 2011 in Lower Hut, Wellington, which is a cricket club for young aspirants. It also allowed Rachin Ravindra to go to India every summer and play for The Rural Development Trust Stadium (RDT) or Anantapur Cricket Ground in Andhra Pradesh since he was 13 years old. He completed his high school study at Hutt International Boys School, Wellington, and is currently studying at Wellington College.

The left-hand batter started his cricketing journey playing for the Wellington cricket team. He was a top-order batsman for his team and represented the team in Under 17 and Under 19, he also played Under 19 for New Zealand.

List A Debut: He made his List A debut for New Zealand ‘A’ in October 21, 2018, against Pakistan ‘A’ at Tolerance Oval cricket ground in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. However, Rachin failed to perform in the match and just scored 11 runs off 8 deliveries and also spent 35 runs without taking a wicket in his 6 overs. After batting first, NZ scored just 222 runs and lost the match. Though, that was a thrilling match, as Pakistan won the match by just 1 wicket with 3 balls remaining.

He made his maiden List A century for Wellington on November 25, 2019. He smashed 130 runs in 119 balls against Auckland including 18 fours and a six and helped his team post a 344-run total on the board. Wellington won the match by 7 runs.
First Class Debut: Later in the same month on 30th October 2018, Rachin made his First Class debut for New Zealand ‘A’ against Pakistan ‘A’. The match was played at ICCA Dubai and after winning the toss Pakistan elected to bat first and declared the innings after scoring 346 runs for the loss of 9 wickets. Meanwhile, NZ declared their first innings after scoring 278/9. PAK scored 241/3d in the second innings, meanwhile, the match resulted in a draw after New Zealand’s 164/3 in the second innings. Rachin Ravindra scored 70(119) & 27(55) in the first and second innings respectively while he was unable to pick any wicket in his 14 and 9 overs in the 1st and 2nd innings after spending 51 & 41 runs respectively.

He smashed his maiden FC century (101) playing for Wellington on March 11 2020 in round six of the 2019–20 Plunket Shield.
T20 Debut: After 3 months, he made his T20 debut on January 27, 2019, for Wellington against Otago at Dunedin. Wellington 221/3 in 20 overs and won the match by 11 runs after restricting Otago to 210/8. However, Rachin didn’t get the opportunity to bat but he was the most successful bowler for Wellington and picked 3 important wickets in his 4-over quota.
International Debut
T20I: On September 1, 2021, Rachin made his T20 international debut against Bangladesh. Unfortunately, he registered a golden duck after coming to open for New Zealand. Bangladesh won the match by 7 wickets after bundled NZ out on just 60 runs. Rachin picked the wicket of Shakib Al Hasan as his maiden T20I wicket and finished on 21/1 in 4 overs.
Test: He later made his Test debut against India at Kanpur in the first test of the series on November 25, 2021. The match was one of the most thrilling test matches ever as Rachin Ravindra and Ajaz Patel’s important 10th wicket partnership helped NZ draw the test match from an almost impossible situation. They both batted for almost 10 overs on a turning pitch on the last day of the match.
