Mahendra Singh Dhoni quits captaincy, as you know he was the captain of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) from the 1st season but now he decided to quit the captaincy for the betterment of his team. Under his captaincy, team became champions in year 2010, 2011, 2018 and 2021. Dhoni has decided to step down from the captaincy on his own and now he will play as a player only.

There are only two days left for the start of IPL 2022, Dhoni left the captaincy and once again surprised everyone with his decision. He has handed over the captaincy of Chennai Super Kings to the team’s all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja. Dhoni has decided to step down from the captaincy on his own. He will be seen playing as a player in the 15th season of IPL.

Defending champions Chennai have to play their first match against Kolkata on March 26 at the Wankhede Stadium but before that there has been a big change in four-time champions CSK. “Mahendra Singh Dhoni has relinquished the captaincy of Chennai Super Kings and has decided to quit captaincy and hand over it to Ravindra Jadeja. Jadeja, who has been an integral part of the team since 2012, said in an official statement issued by CSK on Thursday. CSK only has the third captain. Dhoni will continue to be a part of Chennai this season and beyond.”

CSK had retained four players, including Dhoni-Jadeja, before the IPL auction this time. Jadeja was retained by the franchise with the highest amount of ₹16 crores. But Dhoni was retained for this season only for ₹12 crore. Since then there was speculation that Jadeja could be made the captain.

Dhoni is the second successful captain in IPL history. Under his leadership, CSK won the title four times in 2010, 2011, 2018 and 2021. Chennai won 121 matches under Dhoni’s leadership.
